I have a 84 stepside that I put a 5.3 in. I used the original style radiator that is a 3 core aluminum style that I added the fittings to it to match the 5.3 type rad. I have the coolant res. mounted on the fenderwell like stock. My problem is driver side of the rad. gets extremely hot (can't touch with hand) and the pas. side is ice cold. Temp. gauge runs one mark past 210 deg.(225?) I have read other posts about filling through upper hose, milking the hose burping tried them no better. My temp. sending unit is mounted in the water pump. I have put on new pump, thermostat, sending unit, still the same problem. changed fans tried manuel electric no better. As far as I know the moter has never been tore into. Any help would be appreciated, Thank you Danny

Do you have the fan belt routed correctly? If it's wrong it will cause major issues.

When overheating on one side happened on my '86 C10, turned out the guy that installed modified heads on my 5.3L installed the gasket on backwards. I couldn't drive my truck farther than 2 miles without hitting EPM. If you've ever run that high, the PCM shuts off half the injectors. Engine will run like crap. Might want to check that. Otherwise, check to see if you have the right steam tube setup you need. Some trucks used the I-shaped tube for venting steam b/t the front & rear of both heads. SUVs and other trucks only have a steam tube that vents on the front of both heads. I have the I-shaped setup that I had to JB-Weld to seal. <--- cracked it while trying to reshape it to the proper shape. Sealed great with no leaks, but I don't need it, as I have the second of the two types of heads.

Thanks for your help guys. My problem was the radiator cap wasn't letting the water flow into the res. so I took the little plunger off the cap so the water flows into the res. like the stock 5.3 setup. It runs about 190 now thanks again Red and bad c10. You both have helped me out alot on my project. Danny
