Alright , I don't know the exact mileage of my LS1 swap but I suspect it's a bit over 100k . I keep hearing about the buildup that occurs because of the EGR system . I 've read about the top clean procedure that some recommend . Woudln't it just be better to take the manifold off and clean it out or bring it to a shop and have them clean it ? Has anyone done this ? Any suggestion on how to clean this manifold ? Thanks gentlement

I took mine to the carwash, off the engine of course. I sprayed the internals with some engine cleaner an let it soak and then pressure washed the insides out. It came out pretty clean.

Thanks Red . What kinds of improvements did you notice ? Better mileage and power , hopefully ?

I didn't notice any improvement other than it was cleaner.

Ok , how gunky was it before you blasted it out ? I thought any sludge buildup lowers efficiency .

I could see soot and oil in there when it came off the engine and it was very clean when all said and done. As large as the area is inside the intakes I am not sure it makes much difference in performance unless you have oil puddling in the bottom of it.
