Thumbs up

just installed my other 5.3 with a 222/224 .581 114 cam kit
she really moves now , but, i cant get the damned thing to idle!
ive cant find vacum leaks, so i know thats not the problem, i know the cam trades low end power and idle quality for midrange and topend power. I got what i wanted, cant complain

was considering drilling out that little hole on the buttefly valve of the throttle body for a bit more air, would this make it a bitch to tune later?
I allready stripped out the adjustment screw on the throttlebody

so this is my temporary fix http://n00bl1k3.com/img/truck/idleadjust.JPG
the temp fix keeps it running @ stoplights
but it idles too high, i know its not good for my trans. i dont trust this fix for too long.
im kindof out of ideas

a retune is out of the question till late february.

any ideas?

Usually it takes a couple days driving for it to relearn the idle. But I would think a retune is a must. Allen can hook you up. Call him.

Not a good mod... Not to bash you or anything, but I've rigged things near the throttle levers on my old carb'd motor before. From experience, the throttle can get hung in the open position, and put you in a bind. Lucky for me, I never wrecked anything. Lesson learned. Remove that, and two-foot until you get it tuned. A buddy of mine did that for nearly a month, and I did for about the same. Eventually, adaptive idle will pick up the slack (slightly).

#1 - Can you start it w/o touching the gas pedal for some type of idle surge?
#2 - Can you start it, feather foot it for about 10 seconds, then ease off, and idle surge at 0% TPS?
#3 - For an idle "learn", the truck will have to stay running (surging or otherwise) in park for 10 minutes, and in-gear (w/ e-brake applied and wheels blocked) for the same amount of time.

I may be wrong about time... it may be 5 each, but that's GM's procedure for idle learns. Worked for me. Also, having tuning software to increase your Base RAF does the best job. Call Allen! I thought free upgrades was a benefit (for a limited time). Maybe I'm wrong.

yeah, Allen can fix your tune for the new cam. Tune for life means exactly that. If it's the truck you bought your tune for it can be fixed. Fix your idle arm screw stop. You man have to remove the TB to get to it but it should be fix. Get a thin cutoff wheel and grind you a slot in the screw so that you can turn it. I take it that you stripped out the torx portion of the screw not the threads?

ya, thought it was an hex/allen key, couldnt see it, was turning it then
i am out of $$$, i just got out of the army and i need what little $$ i got for my 2 month vacation of doing nothing and drinking beer
i am going to need a new gasket for the tb to intake i assume! arrgh
Tune for life you say? its been almost 2 years since he was in the passengers seat with his laptop. i thought it was 7-8 tunes for a year then a bit more $$ for each additional tune or tunes outside that 1 year mark, havent looked @ his website in quite some time. im not sure. i got a street tune, I just cant picture allen retuning my truck for infinity! He's just too busy! time costs $$ I gotta pay the man. i hope this thing dont puke on his dyno,
But i gotta wait till late february

#1 - Can you start it w/o touching the gas pedal for some type of idle surge? nope
#2 - Can you start it, feather foot it for about 10 seconds, then ease off, and idle surge at 0% TPS? only when its cold
#3 - For an idle "learn", the truck will have to stay running (surging or otherwise) in park for 10 minutes, and in-gear (w/ e-brake applied and wheels blocked) for the same amount of time.

The TB is sealed with a silicone seal. They are reusable. No problems to remove and replace without replacing the seal.
