whats up, name is Robbie, just ran across this site, man you guys have some pretty cool trucks. I currently own a 00 Camaro SS with heads/cam,bolt on's. I am in the market for a new daily driver, while keeping the SS. I am wanting to do an LS1 swap into a truck but I am unsure of which. I am looking into either a 95-98 1500 2wd silverado/sierra or either a mid 90's S-10, but I am leaning towards the silverado/sierra. The reason for the year range for the silverado is because I like the updated interior better than the box style dash. My question is which would be an easier swap between the 2 trucks. Keep in mind that this will be daily driven, with hauling and towing stuff, the engine will be stock, no billet, no chrome, no paint, just the way it looks in an f-body. I know you guys get this a lot but how hard is the swap itself? My father and I are going to be doing most of the work and fabricating if needed. I don't want it this being a 5 month project, I'd like to keep at a month downtime working mostly nights and weekends. What do you think?

First decide if you want a full size or compact. They've both been done more times than I can count. Consolation is that I think Hooker makes headers for the S10 but not the fullsize. If you want to bring more than one buddy with you on any road trips you'll need a fullsize. Towing with an S10 will be limited due to the light weight of the brakes on it. The swap is relatively easy into a fullsize if you have any mechanical abilities. Check past posts. We've posted on this topic so many times that doing a little research will show how easy it is. Also, the pinned topic in LS1 Conversions lists all the items you'll need to do the conversion.

Welcome to the board! I have a '96 GMC full size short bed fleetside with a basically stock LS1/4L60E in it. A bit of work, but in the end, it is well, well worth the effort. I've got a reciever type hitch, hidden behind a flip-up licence plate, on my rear roll-pan. This truck can now tow my 25' center-console boat with absolutely no effort & it can stop. Glad I did the swap. Gar

thanks for the replies, I am looking for a full size with maybe a blown engine, but I am having better luck finding s-10's with blown engine's. I am kind of on a budget with the whole swap itself, I would like to stay under 5K including the truck. Is it much fabrication required to get it to fit into a full size? Will the factory gauges work? I'm starting to search past topics but any tips or advice would be appreciated.
