I was on my way back from allens shop to college station. I get to san marcos and stop to get gas and i notice that my speedo is jumping and that my front right headlight is out. Well after a few bangs i got the light to start working. Well i tried turning off and on the truck and it is still stuck. But luckily i no my speed to rpms. So when i hit bastrop it is really stuck now. wont move or anything and it is stuck at 5 mph. Well i get back to college station and i turn onto my street. I am pissed about now that it is still stuck. Well sure enough when i pagged the pedal to the floor the speedo started working again. It is working still this morning. In the past 3 months it has been jumping around and been jerky. It has completly stopped on me once before but the next morning it was working again. One of the tell tell signs that it gives before it gets stuck is that it will jerk and fly up and down or just be flat out slow compared to what the speed i know i am going. Get this cruise still works when it was stuck at 5mph.

I dont get this please help. I thought it was the Variable Speed Sensor in the transmission but with the cruise working i doubt that is the problem. I think it is my guage cluster. Anyone experience this?

My truck does this all the time. I replaced my electronic speed sensor and that didnt fix the problem. So this is what I do. I know its ghetto but it works. When mine gets stuck, say its stuck at 25 when my truck is turned off. Well when I start my truck, it makes it jump down about 8 mph. so after i start the truck once its down to 17. Ill sit there and just restart my truck about 5-6 times, untill it is back at 0. I notice mine does it on long trips on on the highway. Try that and see if it will reset it. It should, your problem sounds just like mine.

sounds like a short of some sorts. i'd try some dielectric grease on the connections. i'd pull the magnetic pickup out of the tailhousing and visually inspect it for damage. if the rear bushing in the tailshaft housing is worn out, maybe that could cause erroneous readings. there is a specified distance from the speedo pickup to the reluctor on the output shaft and if it's too far or too close, it may mess with it's performance. i would definitely check the wires from the pickup sensor and check that you don't have any chafing in the wires anywhere from back to front. after that, sounds like maybe a bad ground on the instrument panel.

I notice on mine, its fine when im accelerating, but when I slow down, the speedometer is jumpy like it catches. Say I slow down 10 mph, it only moves down 8 mph. then I speed up again and slow down again and its off even more. One time my speedo was topped out at 130 on my truck and I was going 60. Ill check the wires and stuff. Where does this grease go?

it would go on the electical contacts. from the way your's sounds i would be checking the bushing in the tailshaft housing for excessive wear. unless all the needles are bouncing or reading erradically, i wouldn't think instrument panel ground. i'd sure trace the wires back to the pcm just to be sure there are no shorts or bare spots on the wires. maybe hummertech knows other things to check. sounds like a common problem.

The thing is that it only happens after i have been driving the truck for an extended amount of time. i did soften down my shifts because it did not start happening till after i did the shift kit. I had very firm shifts.

Red do you have a shift kit in yours?
