are coated headers really necessary for south texas?? cuz i'd gladly pay $100 less for black headers.

Depends on if you like rusted pipes or not. I'd say definitely worth $100. I paid a lot more than that to have mine coated after building them. The results are well worth the money. The coating also helps to hold heat in the pipe which is supposed to help speed the airflow out of the engine. That's why some guys wrap their headers. I'd say yes, pay the extra. You'll never regret it.
