Well awhile ago i descreened my MAF and at the time it just seemed like something to do i saw a couple of guys on performancetrucks.net saying it helped. Now it seems like my truck dosen't run right well i mean it does but it dosen't feel the same and it idles funny sometimes. Ive cleaned my throttle body and the idle control valve could me taking the screen off might be causing this? I know that the screen helps straighten air flow maybe now that the screen is off its getting weird readings?

And if thats the reason why can i just got buy a screen name put it back in there or do i need to buy a new MAF i know of a salvage yard i can get one for about 75 bucks instead of a 200 dollar brand new one.

If the screen you took out is not salvageable you will need to get one with a screen in it. The smooth airflow goes alooong way man. I could never get my truck running right without it, just kept pinging on me.

yeah it seems like the motor pings during idle. Is that cause of the screen being gone?

Yes it is. I had a set of smooth bolt on ends for my MAF. I installed the screenless end and started pinging immediately. I put the stock one back on and viola!, no more ping.
