Well I am seriously thinking of trading in my truck for a 2wd RCSB with a v-6 and a 5 speed. If I do that then I am prolly gonna go with Allen's new 6.0 engine package. What my question is will the 6.0 bolt right up to the 5 speed? I am also going to do a T56 swap in the future but for the time being will the 5 speed be able to hold up to the 6.0?? Are there going to be any problems with doing this? Thanks.

Sorry, guess this should have went in the Conversions section....

Really? You think it would be easier? I dunno, I thought a manual tranny would have been the easier route...since bolting the 6.0 up to a 4l60e and the way I drive would pretty much be the end of that tranny. I would have to upgrade to a 4l80e or a 200r4, since I am also planning on some kind of FI. So I would have thought that the 5 speed would at least hold together for a while until I can get the T56 swapped in.

I don't think that 5 speed will hold up to much hardcore driving. It only comes behind the 4.3 as I remember.

If I am going to do this the 5 speed would only be in the truck for a short time before I could put in a T56. Am I right that a T56 swap is not that hard since I will already have a manual truck? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks.

youll have to change all of the wiring when doing a swap from a v6 to a v8. if you can find a good affordable v8 whether its a 4.8 or 5.3 it will be a direct swap. i was looking at swaping a 5.3 into my 4.3 truck and the mechanic i use said it would be cheaper to just sell the truck and find a 5.3. someone in the forums made their auto into a standard.

    anyone remember who it was?

you could contact him and see how difficult/expensive it was to do the tranny swap.

The 5 speed will hold up as you're not too hard on it. I just smoked my clutch with my 4.8. But the tranny is still holding. The nv3500 isn't a rock crusher 4speed, but I think it'll hold..

    P.S. Does anyone know where I can get a CLUTCH for a 5speed NV3500/4.8L. I need part#'s and $$$

    thanks Travis

I would get a centerforce clutch kit with dual friction plate. They make some of the best clutches for the money and have a soft pedal still instead of harsh like some others.

I have a 4.8 with the 5 spd in my 02 rcss and just had to replace a clutch about 5 mo ago and at that time there was no performance clutch to be found! I thought the same thing about centerforce bla bla bla and found a website that showed they had an application for my truck so i ordered it and i was pissed when i got a dual friction clutch for a 4.3 v6 which is different diameter by an inch or so!!!! I ended up going to NAPA and if i remember it was in the neighborhood of $365-375.00 for a replacement stock clutch!!! all i can say is before ordering anything through mail or internet check w/ the manufacturer first....

I was told that the truck application was too new for performance clutch but that was just before they were going to release one ...its probably out by now.. do your homework though trust me
