My truck and mods are in my sig. I just bought the cam and will be getting the long tubes soon. My question right now has to do with my exhaust. I'm planing on building my own coming right off the collectors with 3"(?) into an x-pipe, then into mufflers, not sure what kind yet, and ending with 4" stainless tips in front of the rear wheels on each side, all mandrel bent. My main concern is will I have a problem with such an abreviated exhaust and especially no cats? Also any input on which mufflers to go with would be great (I want loud, but not obnoxious). Thanks.
    New project truck:

    '00 ECSB 4wd, 5.3, 3" body lift, gap guards, 18x9 Moto Metal 951's, 305/60/18 Mickey Thompson MTZ's

To-do list: Built rear end, 6.0 swap with built top end, 4L80e, and a couple bottles in the bed.

i dont know about a problem with not running cats but i do know you will run ito a problem with running the exaust out both sides because you can only run it out of the pass side because the gas tank is on the drivers side in front of the rear wheel and that creates a problem unless youve relocated it or plan on it, but i do know many peoplel who just run it all out in front of the pass side in front of the rear wheel and it looks and sounds good

3" true dual exhaust?!?!?! That should rumble real nice. It may be a bit large for your engine and you may actually lose power going with such a large pipe. I'd be curious to see the results if you do a before and after dyno run on it. Let us know what comes of it.

Yea, that was another concern. I know that too big/open exhaust can kill the low end torque. I may just reduce it down to 2.5", that should still be sufficient for a NA 5.3. Any muffler sugestions?

i always had flowmaster 40 series, i just loved the sound, great throaty sound while accelerating and nice mellow tone cruising. ive also heard magnaflow they sound good and throaty with class, no cackle, go on the manufactures web site they usually have sound clips, good luck.

what i did on mine is 2 1/2 with an h pipe, two forty series flowmasters stacked vertically in where the stock muffler sits and both pipes exiting in front of the right rear tire. i love it and it sounds MEAN.

That sounds very similar to what I was planning. Do you have any pics from underneath or sound clips? I bet it sounds nice.

I don't know how it will affect performance and with true duels you probably don't have the room, but i think CORSA sounds great on these motors. Other than that I would only recomend Flowmasters. Just my .
