    86 C10 5.3L swap with carb and 700R4 - can I use 1" back mounts?

Hey guys, I've got a 1986 C10 that I'm looking to swap a 5.3L into. It currently has a 700R4 which I am going to keep, and I want to mate the 5.3L to it without moving the transmission or crossmember forward.

It seems like I've read every C10 swap thread, but I can't find anyone who has used the 1" setback mounts. I did find one member here with a K10 suburban who used the 1" setback, but I'm not sure if the C10 is the same. Does anyone here know if I can use the 1" Carshop mounts in a C10 and clear the firewall?

ever heard of DirtyDingo mounts? They're slotted and allow you to keep your trans right where it was.

Yes I've heard of them, but at twice the price as the carshop ones.

it will be worth it man. spend the extra cash on the dirtydingo mounts, you might save a little with the carshop mounts, but really you'll spend more later on getting a driveshaft for the new placment of the motor. i used a 1" setback and still ended up drilling and tapping further back to set the motor where i wanted.

Get the dirtydingos, I wish I had. Would've made things a lot simpler.

If I go ahead and get the DD mounts, will the engine still clear the firewall sitting that far back? Looks like it will be close, but hard to get a good guess with all the emissions junk still in the way.

Well, just because the motor mounts let the motor slide back that much further, doesn't mean it wont hit the firewall.

I am not sure on your 86 but on my 1992 the dirty dingo's let me put the motor exactly where the old one was.Tranny and crossmember lined up perfectly.
