Actually, if you swap in the computer from the 6.0 truck you technically wouldnt have to retune.

Id just get a long block 6.0, swap all the parts from the 5.3 and get a tune, then youre just paying for a long block and tune the rest is labor.

chances are that the VATS would have to be disabled to run the 6L factory tune on your vehicle. Not 100% sure but I believe the truck would know some funny stuff is going on and the PCM/BCM will go into lockdown. It would be better to just have your factory PCM retuned for the new engine.

I have an 00 2500 suburban with the 6.0 and a rod knock. found a 5.3 from an 00 1500 for $400 (used 6.0 was $1300) and we started to put it in. shop says there is a difference in the depth of the cracnk extending from the block and the flywheel from the 6.0 won't bolt to the 5.3 without a spacer. anyone heard of this?

absolutely. You need a crankshaft extension and longer bolts to go with your original 6L flexplate. Crateenginedepot.com has it in their online catalog and you can get the part numbers so you can pick them up locally.
