Thread: Tough decission

1. #1
Ok guys here goes. I got a all time hard decission for me. Gas prices are really starting to be a pain in the ass for me, well all of us im sure. I had started to put alittle interest in getting a 4 banger with a turbo. while talking to a friend he mentions causually that his grand father owns fiesta dodge and he can get me hella big discounts. So im like ok lets test drive and see what i think. First off the srt-4 is fast stock. 14.1. Then you can buy up to a stage three that puts youa t 350 at the wheels. Thats just through mopar. Anyway so im like cool good gas mileage and fast. Then he tells me that they can get me like 7 off the sticker. So here is the tough part. Get into a brand spanking new 2005 srt-4. Or buy my sts kit risk breaking stuff and not have it covered by a warranty. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Like if any of your friends own them. Any impressions ext.

The true decision is can you see yourself driving a ricer? Not me, I'll suffer a while longer. I'll take one of the 28 mpg vettes to improve my mileage if I weren't broke due to college tuitions.

Dont be fooled by the 4 banger theory. Actually sometimes those things give worst gas mileage than V8's. Specially a gen III V8. If you want a gas saver with performance I think a 2000 or so C5 is a great choice. The 6th gear is a great gas saver. The SRT-4, SS cobalt all come with 5 speeds wich IMO are outdated. The WRX's and EVO's come with 6 speeds so the japs got that right. In any case I cant freaking stand 4 bangers period so they are all big piles of
......I hope this helps.

Take a good hard look at yourself being in one of those. No way in hell do I see you in one hahaha, your truck is nice and how much are you going to actually save? new payments, new mods, etc. Plus, think of all the dorks you're gonna have to talk to hahahah when they see your car. I'm just kidding man,

it's a neat car, but not that neat,

I've owned a lot of crap so I'll tell ya what I can on them.

The '02 WRX I owned averaged 20-22 city only. 26 straight freeway. Trapped 76mph in the 1/8th mi with $800 in parts... not bad at all. A 2.5L short block is $1300, I know more than you can imagine about those cars. Just ask. They get nasty fast, for cheap. WRXs get the 5 speed, STIs get the 6 speed. All EVOs but the MR have the 5 speed also.

Also had a '98 LS1 Z28 and an '01 LS1 C5. Cam had 3.23:1 gears and the C5 ran 3.15:1s. Both got pretty suprising economy. Vette averaged about 23-25 depending how I drove and the camaro a bit less (19-20) as I drove it a bit crazier.

But with the tall ass gearing and light tire/wheel combo you can lug it on the freeway like that with ease.

Thats hillarious . I guess Allen will have to buy echotechtruck.com. If you put a V-tech engine and post on a honda website they will probably idolize you. Just messing with you, but Allen is right you wouldnt save that much cuz you will have a new payment, insurance etc. If you wanna save gas get a late 80-early 90 toyota. If you wanna haul and save gas hmmmm tough luck!

I guess i didn't quite convey how much of a discount im being offered on this car. We are talking around 14 to 15 ttyl. And my trade will be pretty close to that. My insurance full cov will go from 90 a month to 120 but my gas bill will drop dramatically. From 16 mpg to 28 big diff. I really dont wanna learn standard but thats just to bad lol. Still undecided and no feedback from people who have owned/ riddin/ know people with modded ones.

calculate the out of pocket expenses you will have to pay and the gas you will save with this and see how long it will take to finally break even. My guess is at least 6 years. I did this a while back, assumes I got something with 35mpg. Assume 24000 miles/year (conservatively high for me). That's 1411 gallons in my truck and 971 in the other car. assuming gas it 2.00 (the higher the faster the payoff), I am saving 880/year. If that car was 6k, it would take me just under 7 years till I really "saved" any money. Just some food for thought if you are just looking at price.
