Hey yall I got a few questions. First I got this friend of mine trying to find the right V8 for his sonoma (a GMC S-10) and Im trying to tell him that a LS1 or a 5.3 will set him straight on the highway to hell. He says that he does not want anymore than 350HP and that the GEN III motors are too pricey. So do you know where he can find some good engine tranny combos? Oh he also wants a manual not an auto. Hes really looking at the 305s and the crate 350s but IMO those old dinosaurs are outclassed compared to the GEN III's.

Next Im guessing that the outside dimensions on the LS6's E. manifolds is the same as the LS1, if thats the case, will there be a gain for upgrading? I would love LS7 manifolds but those probably wont be available for a while.

Last thing is Posi traction really that terrible? Some people say that is a nightmare on the rain and that is only good for a full out dragvehicle. Something about limited slip just doesnt convice me. Thanks for the info.

Old style V8s are going to suffer in the fuel mileage world vs. the LSx motor. He can pay now and get good fuel mileage or pay out the ass for gasoline. LS2 all the way bro. Otherwise, LS1, 6.0L, 5.3L or 4.8L in that order. The cast iron engines are a dime a dozen, except the LQ4/LQ9 6.0s. Any 5/6 speed will fit them all, you'll just miss one bolt hole. Unless you're putting out 500 hp I wouldn't worry about that. I'd go with the T56 though for simplicity, no adapters required for the cranshaft. The standard trans for the LSx Vortecs are getting more plentiful in salvage yards. Try Bishop Automotive in Dallas for an engine core or complete. 214-426-9739. They get Aussie LS1s and sell them minus the harness and PCM. Hiway Auto advertises he has LS1s sometimes. Haven't seen him online much lately posting, though.

I love my posi it works better in the rain than the open diff did. Now I get traction in the rain when taking off instead of pulling out into traffic and not being able to move!

I agree with the other guys and would like to add something. You said he is concerned with $$$$ and says the LSx's are too expensive but, then he's looking at 305& 350 crate motors?? Around here I can pick up a complete drivetrain with everything for less than I can buy a crate 350. I'd give the same advice as LS1nica..... 4.8L ( for mileage ), and a T56, oh and a nelson tune

I dont know about that guy sometimes, somedays hes a european sedan fanatic, next day hes a crotchrocket freak and somedays hes a hot rodder and I think thats when we get along the most. Well maybe when we talk about how we use to drink beer back in the US counts as a good day as well.

Anyways I think I got enough power out of my stock motor for now, I definetly need traction and that should get me some really cool numbers. Im really leaning towards the Posi/4.10 combo. To be honest thought my truck needs alot of eye work. That thing looks like crap but is cool yall.
