need help with ls1 in 1990 gmc sierra

i have a 1990 gmc sierra and im looking to drop a ls1 in it, a m22 rock crusher transmission, get rid of the four wheel drive and go to rear wheel but i have a few questions. how much work is involved in making the engine fit in the truck?? the truck has an automatic transmission now but when the ls1 goes in im replacing it with a manual transmission and have heard that the m22 rock crusher is a good transmission to go with...is this true or is there a differant one i should use? also after the engine and transmission are installed what else am i going to need to do to have everything operating as it should?? when i convert to rear wheel drive only what other parts are going to need to be installed or changed?? differant drive shaft?? should i go with short arm long arm suspension in the front?? as you can see i have alot of questions and need some help and information before i dive into this project so if you can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

I did the same conversion as you, just not in a 4wd. Making the engine fit is no problem, I got mine in there easily. Welcome to the site.

I used the 4l60e. And I used these bolted to the engine, then the cups bolted to the adapter plates. http://carshop.carshopinc.com/produc...id/74328/LS1GM
