    Unhappy 14 bolt questions?

Ok i just picked up my 2500hd springs today getting ready to put them in after i get my urethane bushings in. My question is the next step is to swap the poor lil 10bolt for a 14bolt but i cant remember if the one form the silverado ss, or the vortec maxx trucks is the one that fits? I thought i heard before that the spring pad width is the issue, any help?

I thought it was the spacing width wise of the spring pads....like the HD trucks were wider or something...I am about to start buying parts for my 14 bolt swap here REAL soon....I have an 07 2wd 1500....and the VHO, or 2wd silverado SS trucks have the 14 bolt that you can just swap in and use a shorter slip yoke...my truck has drums...and the most common of those from what I understand is drum....the 14 bolts with disks might be harder to find if you have disks and wanna keep them....just remember if you look it up on a car-part online place the SS and VHO 14 bolt axles are called "hybrid" optioned rear ends...It seems like its because it DOESN'T use the 1350 U-Joint...I dunno if it's a 1310....someone might be able to chime in here...I'm a 2WD guy...LOL...good luck man...

measure the OD of one of the caps on the joint...

    1-3/16 = 1350
    1-1/8 = 1330
    1-1/16 = 1310

the only difference in the SSS 14bolt is the angle of the perches. when i installed the 06 rear in my truck back in winter of 06/07 i had to reangle the the rear since the pinion was so far positive.

Besides that the 10bolt brakes and everything swap right over. Ive had this combo like this going on 3 yrs now

also they coe stock with G80 but if you find a TBSS they have a G86 which is actually a posi unit that uses springs

it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors, It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em..That's the difference

yeah sorry meant to say the width between the spring pads, yeah im hoping to find an 03 or 04 with disk brakes i think there better than my stock ones anyways, i agree i think the 2500 does have a wider spring set than the others, 10 4 yeah im running the 1330 set up right now when i swap the 14 bolt in ima have the local drivetrain shop make me a 1350 complete set up

you havea 03 truck, you dont have to change nothing. Just toss on your current brake setup onto the 14 bolt. your brakes will work as they do right now no difference.

TBSS is a 4 bar setup so no you cant use that rear just saying the carrier is a g86

to be honest unless your making serious power the 14bolt isnt needed. a 10 bolt with good carrier is plenty for most ppl. If you wanted your truck to haul alot of weight then should of just bought a heaveir duty truck

you can only be as strong as weakest link

yeah i thought it was 4 bar set up just aint had much of a chance to look at one, i have heard i can swap my brakes over but what im hoping to do is use the set up from the sss cause if i remember corectlly the disk set up is better than mine cause ive only got the light duty single piston setup, im sure the 10 bolt is for some but why not go for a 14 if ya can thats the whole fun in building a truck i do tow alot and with a 408 lq9 on the way here soon that 14 bolt and a FLT level 4 will bring alot of peice of mind
