What are your cruise RPMs at 65 and 70mph?

    Thanks!

    NOT an SS but....

    275/40/18 tires = 26.66 diam.
    4.10 gears
    4 spd automatic
    65 mph = 2340 rpm
    70 mph = 2520 rpm

    120 mph = 4320 rpm in overdrive!!!!

Shoot me your gears and tire size and I'll tell you what you should be running at.

    Well I figure an SS w/ 31" tires should boogie to the tune of ~2177rpm @ 70mph with 4.10:1 gears. My Z with 4.56:1 should be ~2275rpm @ 70mph with 33" shoes.

Yeah, those numbers are very close. What are you trying to compare? The final drive ratio? rear gear vs. tire diameter?

I'm trying to see if 4.56:1 is too much gear.

I know I have too much gear with 26.66 tall tires and 4.10s for a highway truck. It's awesome for the track and around town. It's so fun to dust Mustang GTs all day long in a big old ugly truck! Its funny that under light acceleration I am hitting 2nd gear about 10mph. Don't think your gears are too high, you may like even more if you don't do highway driving. You can always add a 2nd overdrive unit for highway driving with some 4.88s or even higher. You can sure launch hard like that if it doesn't blow the tires off.
