    Question 7.0 427

    do all 7.0 427's have to run the dry sump oiling system?

    as far as i know only the ls7 runs a dry sump all the older years from like 66 to 70 something were not

    the only reason the 7.0L's run the dry sump systems, is because they were built primarily for GMs Corvette Racing Division which is mainly autocross racing, and that involves alot of highspeed, long sweeping turns. and unless you have a dry sump system in this situation, you'll suck the pan dry. for a street car, you can use the standard oiling system with no problem, you might want to install an oil restrictor though to give it priority main oiling.

    Yeah, really...and those engines have nothing the do with the design of the newer engine.

    GM has already used the LS6 and LS7 option numbers before and they were waaaay different animals (BBC's).

    I thought the dry sump had 2 oil pumps and a longer crank which allowed for the dry sump set up? Not sure how the conversion would work...

    You cant adapt to a wet sump because of the crank, as far as I know, but people are clever and there may be an adapter/conversion on the market with a different pump and pan

    Just buy an LSX block and be done with it.
    Did you know you can change the lifters in an lsx block with out removing the heads.

    You can do that in any LS motor, because of the plastic lifter trays. Not just the LSX, which is just an optimized iron block anyways (not a complete engine)
