Lots of stuff is possible. Hard to see inside it from here. Most likely 3-4 clutches burnt but there are many causes.

Both of the parts of your question are kinda the same so I could say no and no or yes and yes. Then again I could say yes and no and no and yes.

1st, no one knows what's wrong with your trans from what you posted, someone would have to drive/scan/tear it down to know. A rebuild is a repair.

    I'm coRnfused.

Too much fluid can make it slip. Burnt clutch packs can make it slip. Drain the fluid to the recommended level and see if it still slips. If it does, I've got a paycheck that says it's your 3-4 clutch packs.

    Basically what Nathan already said.

Hey gas guzzler on my 99 silvy 4x4 it shifts hard into 2nd, slips when i stomp on it on the highway, and makes a loud clunk noise when i put it in reverse. could it be one problem causing it, or is the tranny pretty much gone?

First thing to check is the condition of the rear end and driveshaft for the clunk. Transfer case may also be worn out. Hitting hard into 2nd gear can sometimes be a bad TPS. Do you have any codes? Slipping on the highway can be a slipping converter clutch as easily as the transmission being worn out. I'd take it to a trans shop and have them run a diagnostic on it to be for sure. As always, be sure to double check your fluid level. Transmissions are very tempermental about having enough fluid in them.

i checked the driveshaft u joints, and they look fine i even greased them and the yoke. im not to sure on how to check the rearend? the truck is not throwing any TPS codes the only codes that came on before is the knock sensor PO332 but i took care of that problem. the trans fluid level is right where its supposed to be. how can i check the converter to see if thats whats making the trans slip when on the highway? thanks for your help red, i guess the best thing to do is to take it to a tranny shop and run a diagnostic.

4WD's have quite a bit of clunk because of tolerance stack up. Slack in the trans, transfer case, u-joints, ring and pinion, locker, axle splines....

Sounds like the trans needs help.
