    oil leak

my 07 classic started dripping oil from where the bell housing and motor meet about a month ago. So I took it to the dealer. they cleaned it off and said they couldnt find anything leaking but i know it is. When i got it home i popped the little inspection plate thing off the bell housing and it was soaked inside. so im thinking rear main. has anyone heard of this issue?

yep, the infamous worn out rear seal. Not a biggie to change, expense-wise. Takes time to do in the driveway, about a full day if you've never done one. Gotta drop the trans, remove the flexplate, pull the seal, install the new seal and put it all back together. The seal comes from GM with a white plastic ring in the ID of it, leave it in there and just shove it into the seal bore. The plastic ring keeps the seal expanded so that is slides onto the crankshaft.

Carefully try to determine what color it is. I respect the OP and Greg but at the dealer level we're seeing some issues with front pump and T/C seals leaking ATF.

yea ive had two friends that had trucks that leaked trans fluid there but this seems 2 look like motor oil. and the dealer admitted it was motor oil but they couldnt figure out where it was coming from.

took my truck back today. they couldnt determine the leak so they said the best they could do is replace the rear main and oil pan gasket. im thinking this should fix it. hope anyway.
