    stall break in!!

    is there one, got PI 4k installed today, was just wondering as i hadnt recalledever reading about a stallbreak in period, so is there one?
    Simple: 408 on steroids!

    IMO i'd put a couple hundred miles on it before i start WOT runs

    Coverters usually require normal driving for a couple hundred miles before you beat on them. This is to break in the clutch lining properly.

    here is my break in procedure on transmissions and torque converters.

    step 1: make certain that it is full of fluid and not over heating.
    step 2: drive it like your trying to break it it works for me. the only thing i let break in is gears.

    old mod list: H/C/I/N/E/G 408
    new mod list: 5.3, gears/posi, mufler and tune : (

    From the Yank Installation Guide:

    BREAK IN PERIOD…

    Yank converters have a special clutch lining material that requires a special break in procedure. This procedure consists of: Driving the converter at normal speeds with NO WOT starts or brake stalling the converter for approx, 150 miles. Stall checking or Brake stalling will severely damage the clutch lining if converter is not broke in properly. This will void any warranty.

    Yes, and if you would do a survey of the members on this forum, you would probably find that 99% of them drive their DOT-legal trucks on the street. So why expound a proceedure that's not applicable to the situation? If the OP's converter fails because it wasn't broken in properly, are you going to cover the warranty? The manufacturer isn't.

    There's a right way and a wrong way to break in parts. In this case, the link I provided describes the right way.

    Rationalize it anyway you choose. But if I had to decide on whom to listen to, the manufacturer who actually builds it, or someone who's claimed to have talked to every old school rodder out there, I would choose the mfg every time. And even if the mfg is not aware of the break in procedure used, the OP still has to endure the hassle, downtime, and expense of removing & replacing the 'defective' unit. I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

    Breaking in the clutches in a converter isn't done during WOT runs because the converter doesn't lock up the clutches when making full power runs. I think GM realized it would kill their single disk clutch in the stock converters so they programmed the PCM to preserve the converter clutch. I may be wrong.

    didnt mean to start a pissing match lol but i think i will take it easy until precission sends me a break in proceedure lol.. better just gonna go read the instructions
