lets say a feller wanted to use an existing 4L60E behind a CARBED small block, what needs to be changed to make it non electronic, 700-R4 valve body? and there is no interest in keeping it electronic and using a $700 +/- tranny controller.
thanks

Just buy a 700r4?
Transgo makes a manual shift valve body kit for the 60e so you can row your own gears. Also get their vacuum pressure controller 46vac so that trans pressure is regulated by engine vacuum rather than the PCM.
The 46-mod kit comes with the 4L60-3 manual valve body kit.![]()

Dont forget the non-lockup TC. I am pretty sure you lose lockup, but not 100% sure.

I dont think he wants to go with a manual valve body but sure would make things easier.
Seems I read somewhere you change something and that takes care of the torque converter, have to add a cable to the carb for line pressure?
I contacted what I thought was a reputable tranny parts house and they said they never heard of such a thing (electronic to none electronic) or thought it was possible...haha
Transgo.com 4L60e-HD3 kit for full manual shifts. Converter lockup is as simple as a ground switch to power the converter lockup solenoid. Theres a 12v wire on the brake switch that loses power when you press the brake. That will unlock the converter when you slow down via the brake pedal.

what if he wanted to keep it auto, just not electronic
He'll need some kind of computer to control it. That's why the "e" is in 4L60e, electronically controlled. The 350s and 700r4 have a governor to regulate shift speeds, the electronic transmissions don't. It uses electronic noids in the transmission to change gears. Without 12v power you're going to need a way to tell it when to shift.

I gotchya, but someone suggested to me that this could be changed, using a 700r4 valve body maybe? non electronic
Not as far as I know. The only real alternative to a computer is the full manual kit. I'm not sure how they control lockup using that kit but like I said, its nothing more than a ground wire once you have power going from the brake pedal to the TCC noid.
