    Newby from Harrodsburg, Ky

I'm from Harrodsburg, Ky and am new to the site....... I'm looking at buyin a RegCab 4x4 Auto 01 2500 6.0 Chevy Silverado. I have a few question for the "experts'' on here....

    1) Is getting 15+ mpg out of the 6.0 out of the question???

    2) If possible what do I need to do to get it???

    3) The truck I'm looking at has 70k and is $10,500 and in good not great shape, is it worth it???

    4) What problems do I need to look for other than the normal things, anything truck/drivetrain related that us prone to problems on this truck???

    5) What rear-end do I want 3.73 or 4.10's I'm planning on puttin 285's (tires) on what ever I buy, I'm not as worried about power as I am mpg???

Thanks, that helps alot, I was just worried cause I've seen some stuff online about how the 3.73's get the same mpg but will not haul as good. I know 1-3 mpg doesn't sound like much but when your gettin 12-13 that 1-3 helps alot

    welcome

I don't think 15 mpg in a 6.0L 4x4 is going to be very easy to do though some guys get it, rarely. You have to decide if you want performance or fuel mileage, they rarely go hand in hand.

I want mileage more, the 6.0 stock will pull my 20ft boat fine, I was gonna get a half ton but I dont like the stance. I'm down grading from a 13 sec 1/4 mile Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins..... I just want another gasser and the 6.0 seems like my best fit

who should I contact for tuning?

    Welcome to the site man!

Downgrading? Only from a motor standpoint... I will admit, the Cummins is a badass motor, its just that you are now comparing apples and oranges. This new truck will drive completely different since it is a gas motor. 15 mpg is definitely obtainable, but you have to be easy on it. The drivetrain for that truck is pretty stout, so if the simple maintenance was done regularly, it should be fine... If it isn't in that great of condition, then pass on it. Keep on looking. Something else is bound to pop up.

One question: Why are you looking to get rid of the Cummins? If you need something that can tow well in the mountains, has decent low end power, and can get better than 15 mpg, why not stick with the truck you have?

The truck does look good, but I personally do not favor RCLB trucks...
