    fuel pressure questions.

ok my issue is i have an aeromotive fuel system ,bung off the rear of tank ,then through a 100 micron filter then fuel pump, then bypass regulator ,all underneath the truck .im installing rails and new inj this weekend ,with the regulator off the rails.2 things.1 is that i have too let the fuel pump come all the way on b4 i can start the truck ,like build up the pressure all over again .factory i could just fling the key and sterter up .now i have to wauit until pressure builds up then start ,pia.any solutions for this deal?and 2 i have a buddy that builds dragsters and he puts his reg ulator after the rails.another words hes saying go in at whatever pressure the pump is putting out then regulate it at the other end of the rails .in 100 psi then regulate it at thhe other end of the rails ,dont seem right ,i was gonna regulate b4 the rails then crossover at 58-60 psi.i need youre opinions or pics of youre rail setups i only want to do 1nce .now granted i dont want to put my buddy down cause he knows his **** on old smallblocks with 9 psi,but i want to be sure of my options.i def want to put my regulator up top now just for ease of adjusting f/p.thanks guys.

i was thinking of putting a aero motive check valve in but im not real sure how that will work with my system,or were to locate it at too keep the pressure up in this whole bunch of parts.

Pump, filter, one way flow check valve, into one fuel rail, crossover to other rail, exit rails to fuel pressure regulater, return excess fuel/pressure to tank.

So, you have taken out the stock fuel pump that was in the tank? And now you are running an external filter to a pump then to the FPR... If you are going with the rails that have the FPR on them, then go ahead and take out your bypass regulator after the pump.

I would regulate the fuel before it goes in...

Hmmm...Red, you must have typed this before I got done typing mine cause this wasn't posted when I hit the Reply button...

Anyway, what is the benefit of having the FPR after the rails?

ok ive got 2 of my most active posters here and 2 diff opinions .red i have 2 run filter b4 the pump 2 keep the pump clean, yes it is external.i have cleaned it sevaral times and proven it works, the filter b4 the pump.tx my plan was 2 install my bpreg that i already have after the rails ,does that seem alright .?i have a way of fabbing them up on the rails with a fp gauge installed in my reg..keep it coming guys .id like 2 see some of the setups you guys are running with fuel rails.

i would like 2 get the 200 dollar reg out from under the truck with my nice salty winters up herre.and it would be convienient to play with fuel pressure up there when necc.

cooler fuel, all the fuel flows through the rails and the excess is returned to the tank.

so red ,im losing prime ,i call it .by putting the check valve were uu described i wont lose prime through the regulator return?im pretty sure the reg will hold xx psi without relieving it .but want to be sure . i know thats y its called a regulator but nothing suprises me.

Ok, I see where Greg is coming from... By eliminating the FPR on the inlet side, you are allowing the fuel to flow unregulated, hence keeping the fuel temps down by not letting it get bundled up through the FPR... And cooler fuel temps=higher flowing fuel. I have just kept the notion of the stock set up to where the fuel pressure is regulated before or at the rails, versus after the rails on its way back to the tank.

Ramsey--that is a good idea to get the regulator up under the hood away from the elements--and so that you can adjust things easier. The only thing I would have along the frame rails would be the filter and pump. Everything else should be located under the hood where is it easily accessible.

The One-Way Check Valve does allow you to hold the prime and not let the fuel loose pressure and trace back to the tank. That will give you a constant pressure at the fuel rails for initial start-up.

Ramsey--I am gunna have to go with Ol' Red on this one:
    1.) Filter
    2.) Pump
    3.) Check Valve
4.) Inlet to driver side fuel rail
5.) Crossover to passenger side fuel rail
    6.) Fuel Pressure Regulator
    7.) Return line to tank
