Cool Converting from Manual to Automatic

    Hi,

I would like to convert a 1990 K1500 from a manual transmission to an automatic. Can anyone give me a quick summary of the process and an idea of what changes I am going t have to make other than the obvious, tranny, column, etc.

    thanks

    jon

done it in a jeep once...wasnt to bad...we used a th350 and a hurst floor shifter and put it where the old shifter was for the T-5....was actually a pretty easy conversion

Buy an automatic with the transfer case so you don't have to tear down one or the other to mate them together. The auto transfer case has fine splines and the manual has coarse spline internally(NP205 point of reference, may have changed since then). Other than that you'll need mounts possibly, TCC wiring if you get one with OD, convertor, flexplate and bolts, convertor bolts, floor shifter or complete auto shift column and linkages down to the trans.
