prolly around $4k, if you can do some of the work yourself, i would guess..lots of guys here with better guesses than me though.
i am about $2500 in, but got the motor CHEAP from a buddy, and have bought lots of used parts.

depends on what engine you get and how much you pay for it. LS1s are very high priced and LS6s are just dumb crazy high in price. Get a 5.3 or 6.0L truck engine for about $700 and $1600 respectively. Then you need adapters, PCM reprogramming exhaust, fuel hoses and stuff. You're looking at least $2500.
See my truck data in the "My Garage" section here... http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/my-ga...tml#post191709
I've got about $3500 in my conversion, but that conversion includes some performance upgrades that I completed before installing the engine.

I stopped adding up receipts... I started with a good foundation 6.0l 4l80e and thought I'd have $3000 into it. When I ran into problems and needed more parts I had to buy them at market price no deals for the most part. Lots of misc crap that costs time and money. I'll add it up at some point but I am beyond my 3000-3200 targetBut once everything is 100% including AC I will be

check the for sale sections on here, ls1tech, ls2.com, etc. there are even some good deals on pullouts on ebay, if you are comfortable buyin from there.
go 6.0 upsides: larger displacement, more cost effective, easy to find, LS based still. do what u want but if u ignore the other advice ull find urself spending more for less in the long run a lot of the times. the ls1 is an awesome motor but the 6.0 is a great motor as well and u can build a beast for a lot less going 6.0. GL btw.
