    L31 Vortec conversion to an LS1 in a 1998 2 Door Hoe - Questions

Hello all, new to the board here. Recently, my L31 took a dump on me on the interstate and instead of fixing it up, I want to upgrade....... and heavily at that. I want to drop an LS1 into my 1998 2 door Tahoe. I JUST recently completely replaced the old tranny with a BRAND new 4L60E unit. My questions are simple: Will an LS1 bolt up to this tranny, how involved of a process is it to swap this engine into the Tahoe, and what MAJOR modifications need to be done? I know wiring and fuel system upgrades are a must, but is there anything else I am missing? Also, what parts off of the old Vortec can be reused, i.e. radiator, etc. Thanks!! I will try to post pics of my Hoe as well, it is a 1998 Champagne 2 door sport with grey leather

sometimes it is hard to get a reponse around here. especially when most people expect you to use the search function. but i like asking questions too. hate the search function.

but, the tranny should bolt up, and you may need the motor mount brackets to make the motor mounts work.

will probably be able to use the radiator, but will need to use the ls1 accessories. unless you get a truck crank pulley, then you can use the truck accessories.

What matters most is who is going to be driving it and how long can it be down for. If it's for the wife and kids, put it back original. If you can't be down for two weeks doing the conversion and chasing parts, put it back original. The conversion isn't that tough, just time and $$$$ consuming.

The fuel pump is good for the conversion.
    The radiator is usable.
Transmission could be re-used with a pilot extension or crank extension and slotting the holes in the flex plate to match the holes in the convertor.
You'll need custom brackets for the a/c or be ready to box the frame to clear the new A/C location. Custom lines are a must in either instance.
Exhaust will need to be fabricated.
Wiring and a reprogrammed PCM are a must.
Fuel lines will have to be fabricated/adapted to the new engine.

    Just a start.

Thanks guys! That is just what I was looking for. I am new to the conversion world and am very excited to do this. When you say "box the fram," what do you mean in regards to the A/C? I am not too mechanically inclined when it comes to cars. Basically what I get from these posts is that as long as the time is available and $$ is available, it isn't that hard. I have a guy in Chattanooga, TN who is probably going to be doing it for me and I am just trying to research before everything happens.

You cut out a section of the frame to make room for the A/C unit to fit in and then you fill the void back in the frame with steel. Notch or Box, pick your term.
