Thread: Is a new iol pan needed for this conversion..

    I was just told by a guy that I will need to change the oil pan on the 2001 LS1 that I am putting into my 71 1/2 ton p/u. I disagree with him. Maybe I am wrong. Just want to see what you all think.

    Nope, use the stock oil pan. I can't see why you'd have to change pans since they use the same pan on the older trucks as up to 1998. The LS1 or NBS truck pan works on the 88-98 trucks. You should not have any issue with the LS1 pan on the older model truck.

    I&#39;ve found that folks at auto parts stores try to suggest what should work, and what is "believed" to not work are not the best sources. Hence, the purpose for this board (and others like it). Custom is custom. I think with my logic and "measure twice, cut once". Too bad trial & error with transmission gave me some extra work... but, I learned how to tear down & build better.
