Mine does the same thing. It is probably either a bad ground somewhere or a bad electrical connection at the fuel pump for the float that registers the amount of fuel in the tank. I wouldn't worry about it too much, but I am sure if you drop the tank and spray WD-40 on the electrical connections, it would solve the problem. The connectors are probably dirty or loose...

Mine does the same thing, from what I've seen it's a relatively common problem with the sending units. Mine is worse when I'm below a 1/4 tank, fill it up and it bounces around a few times and reads ok again. Every now and then it drops and comes back up to the correct level. It's annoying, but it still works most of the time so I'm not ready to pull the tank yet.

Thank you! Freaking sending unit....I was sitting here thinking to myself...WTF is that called...so I typed "electrical connection at fuel pump that connects the float..." or something like that. Sending unit is much easier to understand. Yeah, mine does the same thing---empty, full...empty, full. At the snap of a finger...it doesn't float around--real quick up and down... I am not worried too much about it now. If my fuel pump ever goes out, I will replace it then....

Mine does it. The mechanics at work say the old style has contact points that get worn down on the float lever. Causes a bad connection and does that. Got to get a new one. Or just live with it like im doing.
