I'm just wondering if someone can give me a line to a thread that talks about the best bolt-on mods for the money on my 5.3L Vortec? The only reason that I'm asking this way is that I'm sure that it has been hashed a hundred times before. Any help would be appreciated.

What is best is subjective. In a 4x4 it might be gears or a posi. In a 4x2 it might be a convertor or camshaft. What are your goals, is the mod for the 5.3L 4x4 Z71 Suburban? Do you offroad with it? What type of offroading? What do you already have installed?

Well, the only mod thus far is the one in my sig. As far as LT's, kinda outta the question, as I have to deal with emissions. I had thought about a cat-back/true duals, but don't want anything too radical. This is my wife's daily driver. She wouldn't put up with it. What I'm really looking for is better gas milage (isn't everyone??), some more Horsepower/torque. Nothing outrageous, just free up some of the hp that is already there. The fan was a great addition. I noticed a definite improvement in the seat of the pants. It was hard to tell about the gas milage that Flex-a-Lite claims, as it was about the time that they changed the gas formulation to include ethanol.

I appreciate what you guys have brought to the table already, and was thinking along the same lines. I appreciate any further input.

Moderate would be a correct statement. I guess what I'm looking for is what type of sparkplugs, wires to use. Are MSD coil packs worth it? A tune is a must have (can you show me a link for a "nelson tune"). What would be a quiet cat-back system, or at least not loud? Someone mentioned an intake, what would you suggest. Is the oversize air-filter that is already in there good, or should I throw a K&N in there, or is there something better? I guess these are common questions, but would like some input. Thanks!

Since you are going moderate, I would say stock plugs, a cold air intake, Corsa touring (the sport version is louder) exhaust, and a tune from Allen Nelson. This is his board, and his website is Nelson Performance

    Good luck.
