When to Upgrade the Stock Transmission?

Hello!

i've got a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 with LT headers, 3" exhaust, and a k&n intake. I'm soon installing a cam, valve springs, trunion kit for rockers, and pushrods. I've also got the diablosport inTuner.

I've used the inTuner to firm up each shift. I know that fast shifts will prevent a build up of heat and be better for the transmission. My question is at what point do I need to worry about strengthening this stock transmission? My next upgrade wil be an edelbrock TVS2200 supercharger getting me to the 600hp mark.

Am I good to go now with firm shift pionts? Will I be good after a supercharger?

Basically I don't want to kill my transmission. How do I get the most life out of it?

If it ain't broke don't fix it..... A 6L90 I would think would hold up to low boost and daily driving? Could be seriously wrong though leave some TM in the tune to keep from banging the gears to hard and it should last a little while at least until you have the funds to get a built one I saw a 5th gen Camaro with a TVS and was running a stock tranny

Most likely he doesn't have a 6L90. If he has a 6speed it's a 6L80 which is stout has few upgrades availible, but not great in a very powerful truck. (see silver sleeper) He may very well have a 4L60e which will get destroyed quick and should be built ASAP.

I stand corrected although I do know in 09+ all crew cabs came with a six speed GL to the guy though :thumb:

Yes, I've got a 6l80e.

What all does getting the transmission "built" entail? I've got the inTuner firming my shifts up and I left the torque management on. Is it better to get mine built, or get a 6l90?

Can I even swap in a 6l90?

I appreciate the input guys!

Just keep the trans u have. Tighten and quicken up the shifts.
It should hold just fine.

Sounds good!! Thanks to all. I'll keep it until the clutches give out, then put a good kit in there with a good stall.

A good stall would be an excellent mod right now. You can drop your 60' a lot swapping to a higher stall and thus dropping yoUr 1/4 times. I wouldn't worry about the trans itself takes a ton of abuse.
