In my decision to go with LQ9 cam I came across an interesting fact
I was unaware of.
In 2001 to give the Camaro another 5hp all GM did was stick a 6.0L truck cam
in the LS1 and remove the EGR system.
FYI

is this going in the tahoe?
Yes, in the turbo hoe along with set of 243 heads with '01 Z06 springs (blue)
i wouldnt use either cam to be honest. for the amount of work it takes and gains. stay stocker for now or find the ever popular 02+ ls6 cam. dont waste time on the 01 cam
Personally I think its perfect.
1. Stock idle is extremely important to me.
2. Z06 cams really arent that great of a turbo cam
turbo cam should either be single pattern duration or reverse split like the LQ9 cam.
3. The springs on the heads I have will not support '02 Zo6 cam
4. LQ9 cam is a nice upgrade in both duration and lift over stock 5.3 cam, at least for me.
I would be doing a cam swap for just this cam ? No.
but I'm doing a head swap anyway, which is 2/3's the work of a cam swap, so might as well.
I am going to run 243's, but they came off a '01 LS6, so they
have the weaker "blue" springs.
Getting a "2001 Camaro" cam for $20. Along with fresh 243's for $500
is a good budget upgrade of the stock truck parts for a turbo build.
The extra lift of the Z06 cam would be nice, but I think the LQ9 cam
will provide a nice power increase with its much greater intake duration
over the LM7 cam, while maintaining stock cam manners.
When you compare the LQ9 cam vs. the 2001 Z06 cam
both run 207 intake duration
the LQ9 cam has shorter 196 vs 217 exhst, but thats ok on turbo set-up
and the Z06 cam has 0.050 more lift. I could put on 1.8 rockers and pick-up +0.030
They really are not that far apart ..............
so youre bandaiding your setup by using higher ratio rockers cause you dont want to run a better set of springs? boost needs good springs or you get float!
hopefully it all works out for ya
Sounds about like the same thing i want to do to my tahoe, but only im with Quik....going with PRC's and pulling the LS6 cam out of my truck for a nicer cam and putting it in my tahoe then doing a little gt35 turbo on it
No, not running 1.8's was just using it as an example of how little difference.
These are good springs. They just dont have the open press. that
the yellow springs do. I think they are rated for .525 lift vs .550
With only running .480 lift on them should make them close nice and fast
and tight with the boost.
ppl have floated valves with a better spring. hopefully it all works out for ya
