heat gun, wire, and a good buffer. Or you can take it to a body shop and pay them a few bones to do it. That way if it gets messed up, they have to fix it.
I did mine with nothing but a hair dryer and a bottle of Nu Finish to polish it. Once you heat up a part of it you can peel it off like electrical tape.
I bought a flip kit and let Red03SilSS redo my whole tailgate. You should do the same thing with the entire tailgate. Its clean as hell
its just vinyl....it peels right off
I peeled mine off in the cold so the vinyl wouldnt leave alot of sticky residue left. Then I took some 3M adhesive remover and a shop rag to get what was left on the truck off.
yeah peeling it off in the cold it tends to break apart and not come off in one piece...if you do it in the cold i suggest using a hair dryer to help you out a little
Use a 4 inch angle grinder with a big steel brush!...that'll get r done!......
OH.....you dont want to hurt the paint....LOL
Just take a heat gun(or hair dryer) and peel it off. If it leaves any residue get some googone or 3m adhesive remover
I peeled mine right off and no glue left.
Yea I think ill go with the hairdrier and a little paint cleaner! Thanks yall for the suggestions! Yall know ur chevys!
lol i have been doing vinyl for 9 years now
yall forgot the all important eraser wheel. They can be purchased at you local paint and body supply. Use your cordless drill and dont let it set too long in one place.
on vinyl its a waste to use the eraser wheel when you can use some adhesive remover that will melt the little bit of glue that will be left by the vinyl...spray on let it soak for a minute or 2 then wipe it off...use the eraser wheel for that styrofoam tape crap
yeah the double side tape $hit, comes off like butta. but yeah vinyl is easy.
spray a little lighter fluid on the viynl, light it of with your zippo and let the letters soften up a bit.
then what you want to do is get a putty knife and start scraping it off, be sure to hit it from all angles . You might need a small hammer or mallet to assist with this step.
Next, as mentioned before is the angle gringer. Now I prefer the 7" over the 4.5 or 5 grinder but it's up to you. Start with a hard grinding disk to get the any of the "heavy" product that is left , then go ahead and switch to the cup brush to finish it off. Now you'll want to be gentle while preforming this step, there is a 1% chance that you might scratch the paint. But dont worry it buff right out.
:polish2:
That sounds a little rough.

Came right off with a little paint cleaner and a hairdrier. The grinder might would have worked too.
As long as you use an abrasive pad instead of a stone it shouldn't hurt the paint too much....
