whered you get the spring compressor from?
That cam is gonna' sound pretty nasty!!!
What spring compressor?
Looks like some one is gonna be busy.
Only one cam shaft? What the.. Jeff, your missing parts bro.
Your truck is gunna be awesome.
I hope to break 300whp. But I will have another 150hp on tap. :naughty: cant wait until I can put it all in.
I was hoping to barrow somebodies. As soon as I get the tune and pulleys in the mail, I will post a thread begging for help. Kurt said He wouldn't mind, but it will be a few weeks. I want to get this done so I can go back to the track. I will also need the air compressor fitting to keep the valves up. Along with the pulley puller.
You can get a pulley puller from vato zone or oriellys auto for free, just rent it out. A spring compressor is extremely easy to make. Just get a pair of locking vise grip pliers and two flap pieces of metal, weld them to it as if its like a clamp. DONE>!<
a spring compressor could be made out of 3 pieces of flat bar stock since you dont have a mill to cut a relief. You'll have to use your imagination but take two equal length pieces about 5" long each and lay them flat and parallel about a half inch apart from each other. The top edge will set on the upper ledge of the cylinder head and the lower end will lay on the valve retainer. The third piece with the hole in the middle of the bar will lay across the other two bars to push the retainer down. You will need a piece of all-thread the same size as a factory rocker bolt to thread all the way down and then use a nut and washer to draw the bars down. It would be best to lay it all out and weld them together so things don't squirm. Two pieces of 1/2" square bar stock and one cross piece of 1/4" x 1" flat bar would be a pretty good start. If you can't find all thread, just get a very long bolt with a long threaded area and cut the threaded section off.

will this work well?
my half-assed attempt at drawing with paint

^^^That's pretty good Greg! There may be a second career for you...
what is sad is that I am a CAD/CAM person in my work life with numerous design softwares at my disposal and here I am drawing with Microsoft Paint!
Wel since are mods are about the same I cant wait to see the how much you gain and how much faster the truck will be. But yah its gonna sound nice for damn sure!
you should just get everyone that wants to help to plan a trip to waco jeff. I've got every tool u have listed except the spring cmpressor, and you could prob get codys in austin, he has a real nice one.
Looking good Jeff, I cant wait to see how everything works out for you, this is the direction Im heading in my truck right now!
as many people are doing cam swaps, how bout we all go in and buy the tool for the valve springs and we could just mail it back and forth to each other.
since its small shipping would only be like $5 for us texans that are all within 6hrs of each other.
plus as many of us as there is it would only be like $5-10 each, this is one of those tools most of us will only need 1 time and it would be kinda dumb for me to spend $70 on a tool i'm only gonna use once.
just a thought
just get the valve spring compressor from autozone that looks like a crow bar its only like 11 buxks and works pretty well. a tip if you get this tool is to cut the tool in half so you can get to the back spring, i found that taking the rocker rail thing out made the tool work better, and dont use the TDC method to get the spring off it doesn't work to well, just get the fitting for the air compressor so you can fill the cylinder up with air, MUCH easier trust me.
Because somebody buys it, ships it to someone else and it gets "lost in the mail" and someone is out the cost of the compresser. If I owned a tool that expensive I would require the person wanting to use it to be local or put the price of the compresser into my Paypal account before I'd ship it to them and they'd have to have it back to me within a couple weeks or the compresser would be theirs.
Jeff, every tool you need is at the shop. No need to go to Autozone or anywhere else... Plus Jon is interested in one of your HHO kits, he has your number and will be calling you soon to set up a day to do the install.
Thanx everyone for the offers. I wanted to do this asap, But I also did not want to drive 3 hours one way and do a 6 hour install and have to drive back unless I had to. Next Sunday Slim silverado and his cousin will be installing my LSD and 4.10's. It would be cool to do it all at once, but Its all up to kurt and Jon on the cam stuff. Since they are local to me. I will put on the ls1 fans while Im waiting, and prolly the nitrous stuff too. I just need jasons schematic for his fan wires. I know the black one is for the ground. But I dont know wha the blue one is for.
He has some dates lined out to go over with you. The thing is if you want to do it on the weekend so others can come out and help/hangout. Jon's in Dallas this weekend getting his truck tuned and the following weekend with Goodguys at TMS, where he has a lot of customers rides at and possibly future business.
That towel won't work. I would go with a cotton/poly blend or full synthetic.
Speaking of towel...what's the pastel green "P" for (under the ring gear)...?!
hey jeff i had my fans come one both ways at first it was with ignition the blue wire went to a ignition sorce and the black was the pcm wire you need to be sure to have the main power connected to the power supply in the fuse box here is a diagram that may help Google Image Result for http://www.ls1fc.com/images/ls1coolingfansbu6.gif
YOU'RE A TOWEL!!!

Jeff--like 6.0Lvortecchevy said...if you want to do the install at your house, you can buy the handle style compression tool and cut off the handle just after the bend so you can get back to the rear springs. Also, you will need an old rocker bolt with some washers. If you don't have a rocker bolt, take one of yours off and go up to Autozone or Home depot and match up the threads (8 x .125 I think). Make sure to get the same thread length. You can either rent or buy the other tools you need to make the swap happen. Or just drive to Jon's shop and maybe he'll be nice enough to let you use his tools for you spending some time under his desk...
