    Tuning Dilemma

Ok, so I wanted to just get a little input from all of you on this. I am wanting to get the new truck tuned, and was originally planning to go the route of ordering one through Allen. I mentioned this to a friend of mine who does alot of performance work on the side, and he told me that it would be 100x better and safer to have the truck tuned by the local guy he uses. Now the guy who does his tunes pretty much works out of his garage with HP tuners, but seems to do a pretty good job with my buddy's cars. Now my question is do I go with the data log tune from this guy, or take what my friend says is the more risky route (personally I think Allen has pretty much mastered the mail order tune) and order one? Also what kind of differences will I see (if any) between the two?

Its not even a question in my opinion, Allen's tune has lifetime updates for nothing more than the cost of shipping. Will your buddy's guy update your tune when you change things without charging you?

I like live tunes personally, but fear not with using NP he is plenty safe. A live tune will be more aggressive, but of course ecconomics is key. What does the local Guy charge for first tunes and what about retunes? That should be the big difference maker. If the difference were a live tune from someone reputable in the community that would be a different story, but this guy is just local. If he does 100's of vehicles successfully then might not be a bad choice. Its just tough BC NP has prolly done as many tunes as anyone. Speakup Nelson how many have u done?

The local guy would be about $200 for a tune, so pretty close to NP prices. I have seen his work and he does some pretty good tunes. Not sure just what he charges for a retune. My friend did mention the need for data logging however, as a way to both get a better and more accurate tune. I do know however that Allen does some wicked good tunes, did my last truck and I loved it. What kind of results do you think I would see if I did what Fossil is thinking and got some data logs and sent them to Allen?

well my tuning folder is 11.5 gig which contains 16,884 tune files and those files are in 8,879 folders, hahahah.
those files and folders are not 100% new tuned files/trucks only, all folders could consist of stock read files (which were tuned), tuned files and retunes, but regardless, every one of those files are .hpt format and I created everyone of them, whether it be a retune or new tune.
I can't believe all the damn tuning has that gone on over the years, that's too many clicks. I haven't checked in a year or so, wow it adds up.

so ya, somewhere in those files, you can be certain we've tuned your combo. not that we ever cut or paste, each file is tuned individually, (that means it's flashed by GM stuff, read and tuned) but it does show we've ran across enough trucks and cars to have a very good idea what your vehicle needs.

good luck on your choice and thanks for considering us,

    allen
