My 04 5.3L is stock besides 40 series flowmaster. What other mods would work well with a Nelson Tune? How much of a difference would a thermostat make, what are the pros and cons of that mod and others?

The main deal with a 160 thermo is that it allows the engine to take a bit more timing because it runs the engine cooler, Allen will have to set the fans to work with this. An aftermarket Cold air intake system would work well, and for tranny mods a vette and OD servo and maybe a shift kit would be nice with it.

How much would an vette and OD servo cost? What is it actually going to do for me. Also how much would a shift kit cost? I am not wanting to do anything that will jeopardize my transmission.

That all depends on how much money you want to spend. Knock out your bolt ons and cheap mods first. I cant believe you still aint got a cold air kit. The list is infinite but I think the ones that make the most difference will be the Headers and your rear end. Even a limited slip rear end with 3.42's or above is better than that open diff you probably got. The headers will give you a great sound with breathing room for more mods. They wont jeopardize your tunin either but you gotta tell allen though. The thermostat is a good choice but electric fans or a lower temperature setting for the fans to kick on is a must. Tranny shift kits are good too and they wond really hurt your transmission. Good luck.
    Had a 91 SB, Open diff, 3.08 gears, stock LS1/T56. 14.8@95.9...sold.
    Now, 90 C1500 350tbi/NV3500....just bought a 5.3...need T56, Swap parts.....

Well when I ordered my truck I got 3.73's in it, and limited slip. So a cold air kit would work well with a nelson tune? Just how much time you think the Nelson tune alone would take off my 1000ft time. I am running a 12.4 right now. Also what cold air kit would you recommend?

12.4 with a 5.3? Damn, give your secrets to Allen. That sounds like his 6.0L STS turbocharged times. To hell with that, give me your secrets to speed and I'll make a fortune selling them. You're faster than a C6 Corvette!!!

    You misread, I am running a 12.4 @ 1000ft, not @ 1/4

That's the first time I have done that.

What are your 1/8 or 1/4 mile time?

    9.7 @ 1/8
The drag strip here is only 1000ft, so no 1/4 time.

I have to say that's the first time I have ever heard of a 1000' drag strip, only 1/8 or 1/4. What track do you go to?
