    security relearn/crank relearn?

are they the same thing? id like to order a nelson tune soon and had read on their site about ''security relearn'' and thought that was all one had to do after installing a tuned pcm.(even if you sent your original pcm?) now ive been reading about ''crank relearn'' and that doesn't sound like something that can be done without a dealer tool? or same thing just can be be done faster with said tool? please educate me.

do a search, redheartbeat ( i think) did a nice writeup on it. I've swapped my PCMs from allen atleast 4 times, and have never had to do a relearn. Normally just throw it in, let it idle 5 minutes, put it in D, let it sit for 30 seconds, and drive it. My first tune needed the 5 minutes, doubt rest did, but I normally recommend it to anyone who disconnects battery longer then an hour, def won't hurt anything.

But the crank relearn is not a 'every tune' required sorta thing.

thanks for the response. I'm probably making this harder than it needs to be, think ill change my name to ''specialcaddy'' lol. please clarify for me, you sent your pcm and got your pcm back? (or this does not matter?) also i think ive read redheartbeats write up on it (I think it was in a sticky?) just hadn't been able to find it again.

thanks for posting that link for me, i read that you DO need a scan tool to perform crank relearn. so then does it depend on how much the tune is changed, weather or not your reinstalling your original re-flashed pcm, or just roll the dice and see what you get? now that ive let everyone know how illiterate i am to all of this I will lie about who i am when i order this tune lol!

I've had 4 or 5 difference pcms in my truck, never had a problem. Doubt you will either.

Ok, ok, i got it i got it! just trying to prepare myself for my luck, but sounds like i just need to go ahead and order and quit worrying about it. thanks for your replies oleshifty, hopefully some of my next posts are about a ''not as slocaddy''. Now just have to decide if I'm going to bite off lt headers and e-fans at the same time.

efans are really easy, and def worth the $ as far as power/gas savings. You can normally get a set off a ls1 f body in junkyard for 40-50 bucks. Get a harness from Nelson to have computer control them, or do like me, and just have them come on with ignition.
