    transmission tuning question

ok, one thing that is driving me crazy on my 03 silverado is under light throttle low speed driving the 1-2 shift seems to come out of 1st and "drop" into 2nd with a clunk. The truck just turned 58K miles today, and im not sure if the fluid has ever been changed, but a full fluid flush is on my short list of maintaince stuff to do.

I want to find out if its better to tune the PCM for better shifts, or install a transgo HD2 kit. I have a brand new kit here already that i bought for my previous car that got totaled, and never got to install it. Im not looking to bark the tires on every gear change, but i do want firmer than stock under light throttle, and maybe alittle chirp on the 1-2 shift at WOT, but nothing that will be neck snapping as the wife will just say i ruined it by messing with it.

I do have some bolt on mods planned for the future, but probably wont go beyond that with the stock 5.3.

yeah i think im going to go ahead and do the shift kit, since i already have it, and put in a new filter and fluid, and if i want to firm up the shifts after that i can do it with the tune, i also def want to get the TM tuned out.

just have allen do it nelsonperformance.com he did mine and it hauls now. Btw dont tune out all of th TM if you do it your self. unles you want an excuse to rebuild it, cause it will pop

yeah as far as the clunk you here when it shifts, that actually will get worse with more firmness added!! You really have to make sure the shift firmness is in a good spot for a 4l60. Too much firmness and out goes the tranny from high line pressures, too low and you slip

yeah, i just ordered the vette servo, and im going to pu tut in the HD2 kit, it has different shift settings, i remember from the one i put in my 01 Blazer X, there are 3 settings, i set the blazer up on 2, and under normal driving was firmer than stock but not harsh, and it shifted pretty hard under WOT, but the TM was really bad and the truck fell on its face on a 1-2 shift, especialy after i put in the 4.10 gears.

Im going to start with the HD2 kit and vette servo and im def going to get a tune and get the TM mostly tuned out, so i dont have the same problem.
