Post OBS 5 Speed into NBS

Hey guys, I recieved a pretty good offer on a 5 speed transmission from a 4.3L '95 1/2ton, I was just wondering if this is the same unit in the 2000 trucks (1/2 4.3 ton as well).

If my tranny ever decides to go, I would like some peace of mind mind.

As well.... I have been really thinking about doing a 5.3L swap into my truck, do the 5 speed transmissions bolt up to these engines without much modification? How strong are they/how well would they hold up to the new found power?

Thanks a lot for any help guys (and gals), I'm a new member to the forum, although I've been around before doing research.

    Jake

I'm pretty sure it's the same. If you know anybody at your local salvage yard, they have interchange guides.

Actually, in a pickup, it should be a NVG4500.

Bigger and heavier, yes. Better designed to push around a heavy truck, even when loaded, yes. As far as using it in a high performance app, I'm not so sure.

I had a t-5 in a Mustang, it was okay, but I never made much more than 300 hp. The t-56 in my Z28 was fun, but at 375hp, it was at its limits. At around the 400 mark, they start breaking, and alot of guys upgrade to modified Viper t-56. I've never heard of the t-10.

I think some of the Gibbs Magnacharged trucks used NVG4500. Anybody here know about that for sure?

    Nope, should be an NVG3500.

    Should be the same though.

T5's are Camaro transmissions but there are also F***s with them too.
