Hot Rod magazine Dyno testing LQ9

Anyone been reading the HOTROD magazine dyno testing of the LQ9 engine? They are starting with a stock LQ9 on an engine dyno and going from there. Started out with 355 baseline HP and swapping out parts and pieces to see what gains you can get from bolt-ons. The October issue max gain was up 74 hp with 1.8 rockers, headers with high flow cats and HPTuner recalibration. November's best is 510 HP with L92 heads and a Crane cam.

Check out the Hot Rods, Classic Cars & Street Rods - Hot Rod Magazine website for updates.

I have been reading it, and the cam article this month really made me think about peak hp. The biggest cam they tested had less "average" hp than the smallest one. It had it beat from 5900 up, but how often are you in this range. The smaller cam had all of the cams beat on torque throughout the range. This really brought into perspective the saying "it is all in the combo."

Since they're owned by the same company, it's probably the same article.

yeah they did a test on 5 different cams and including the stock Lq9 cam

    crane cam
    210/218
    216/224
    224/228
    232/236

    Gm Hot cam Ls1
    218/227

The crane Cam 210/218 produced the best torque down low. The 232/236 cam produced the best peak Hp.

with the GM performance parts carb. intake manifold and a 750 double pumper with the stuff red listed about it produced a additional 15hp which produced 525hp

The 210/218 cam produced more usable hp and torque(under the curve) than any of the bigger cams, even thought it did get edged out on peak hp.
