you go ahead and pull 4th gear with that 5400lb truck and see how long the 3-4 clutches last

3.42 with 3rd gear 1:1 ratio and a 31'' tall tire nets 167mph...what else ya got?

4.10's with the 60, 80, or th400 will all only let you hit the same top speed, you should never pull OD with a heavy non aerodynamic truck that is actually making power just way to much stress on the small clutches....i think 4.10's wont let you see but about 145ish at 6300rpm's

3rd will be fine...you can pull 3rd to 160ish david i remember you have 3.42's one thing that make 4th weak is because the ratio is less then 1:1 not going to try and say what it is but i know its lower, but i do know any 3spd or 4spd trans have a 1:1 3rd gear thats why we do dyno pulls in 3rd

i thought in the 80E it would let you hit fourth at wot i know in the 60/65 it wont and i know since its lower than 1:1 it wont pull very hard just like a 6th gear in a vette or camaro but i still thought it was possible not that it should be done.

i wont ever pull 4th in any vehicle no mater 60, or 80...the 6spd in vette i know for a fact will not shift into 6th at WOT...it pisses me off everytime we are in my roommates vette and it hit the limiter at 157mph in 5th

I agree with V in everything except it seems more likely that chassis dyno pulls are made in 3rd because it's 1:1 and that makes it less difficult to calculate stuff....less conversion factors.

I've never had anything fast with an OD automatic but I have pulled the Denali to 125 or so in 3rd....I was a ways away from "needing" 4th and it pulled just fine. 15 MPH cross-winds made me change my mind about going for 130+ driving a "barn on a shopping cart chassis".....even my 6000 pound pile of living room has enough top end in 3rd. Really.
