Drained the oil, cut the filter open. Oil clean, filter looked fine. The motor actually looks great inside AFAIK from just looking at it.

The push rods are all straight and look like new, the rockers all move freely and seem to be perfect. I took one of the rocker nuts off, and there were some metal debris on the threads and what looked like a small piece of metal stuck to them. I used my tactical flashlight and looked in to see if the spring was cracked anywhere and didnt see anything. I have no idea at this point. I even pulled off the drivers side valve cover and inspected around in there with the same results.

I guess i just need to pull the springs out regardless and check everything out. Either way, i am running a pretty big camshaft and most of my buddies are telling me the way i drive, replace the springs at 20k PERIOD. I am getting ready to do a blower, so i was going to swap the camshaft anyhow. But just the not knowing or seeing what failed is keeping me in suspense. I just didnt really want to start taking the springs out yet till ive got new ones to go in. I am a brokeass right now and use the top dead center valve on piston/crane spring tool replacement so i cant really pull it all apart till ive got something to throw back into it. At the same time, i dont know if i even want to put springs in the 243s again, parts of me think i just need afr heads (which i can afford in about 1 month)for the blower adventures and id rather put them towards that. Who knows. i just need a break. Watching the tow truck driver drag my car that sits like a desicron off the ground onto the trailer was enough for me today. I really need a beer.

Chevrolade, i saw you sent more money. Ill get that stuff ready to go brother, today has just been a rough one. Please be patient my bro-mie. Ill get you squared away. Was not expecting this fun time.

At least i can see all of the valves, lol... I guess it could be worse so far.. I had that stupid ASP wabbley underdrive pulley though, so maybe the timing chain is about done or something, who knows. I still really think an inner spring broke on these Manleys.

Either way the springs i have are Manley dual springs purchased from HPE since initially i had the megadeath cam.

you mention you pulled the nut off the rocker stud and it had metal on it, did you check the ID of the rocker to see if it wallard out? the outer spring will usually break before an inter spring. the inside diameter of the outer spring holds most the load.

id be trying to find out where those shavings came from. i take it you didnt try and start it after you had it towed cause of battery failure?

Sorry to hear about the phantom issue, Blacklist. What are the specs on that cam btw? Get that blower cam in there soon so you can lighten up the stress on those springs. You don't wanna get embarrassed by a Bimmer

rockers are perfect. I was thinking perhaps it was pieces of the spring somehow? Who knows at this point, soon as a new set comes in i guess ill discover more.

As far as the cam, the specs are no where. They keep them under wraps from what ive seen. A few threads online show some specs, but according to many they are not correct. My tuner found them somehow, ill have to see what they are.

Well finally caught a break, got some stuff sorted out with the work situation...

I think i may just buy some TrickFlow 225 heads with a slightly larger combustion chamber right now. (or afr 215s.. parts of me want to be able to keep stock rocker arms, as ive heard some horror stories on the roller ones you must use on tfs heads)

    + this ,,, http://www.treadstoneperformance.com...2C+GM%2C+Viper...

build the charge pipes, put head studs in, and see what she will do with a 364 cube blower cam. Guess the car wont run again till its blown.

haha. back and forth with me.. But stuff changes when you have the finances i suppose.

finally got around to just swapping the springs today. Problem may be larger than i assumed. Turning it over by hand theres a pretty significant clicking backlash-ish sound when the #8 cylinder reaches the top of the stroke and heads down. Thinking i could have smoked a rod bearing or possibly snapped a rod bolt winging it out doing burnouts. haha..

The springs were way overdue(according to lg motorsports), but they were all fine, nothing looked out of line.

Hoping with some oil in her and once its fired up the noise is just my mind, but im ready for the worst. Guess it may be time for a 402 dragonslayer rotating assembly and swapping to that blower cam if its a bad news situation..
