Horse power = heat new engines make more power per cube which = higher oil temps regardless of coolant temp. oil temp is effected buy coolant temp but its not as much as older engines and not as much as people think. Ihave a '66 chevy with a 383 stroker with 160 stat and the coolant temp runs at 175 to 185. before I had an oul cooler the oil temp would get up to 250 now with a cooler it sets around 200 to 215 depends on how har I beat on it.

Hey, what did (does) it take to build a SBC 383? Is it a 350 block with a 400 crank? I can't remember. I know the 6.0 in the trucks, corvette and GTO is a 383, but that's not at all what I am talking about here

    I have a 6.0 L block bored .060 over and a crank with a 3.7 inch stroke. Gen I & II engines is a 350 block bored .030 over and a 400 crank @3.75 inch stroke.
