    I know lots of people who kept stock ring gap and are fine, myself included. Hell the fastest stock bottom end 5.3 has stock ring gap

    I agree with you. I just dont think thats what happened in this case. Im gonna stick to my original guess, I think its the turbo

    I agree with you. Just hoping its a less expensive issue(not that my suggestion is cheap lol), but I guess it wouldn't be as bad as other much more expensive turbo's.

    New turbo 350 bucks..... used 5.3 350 bucks..... either way..... 350 bucks

    Its almost not worth pulling the heads if the smoke is from the engine.

    The only other thing I can think of is I know Jansen you mentioned
    I removed my oil level sensor in the pan and routed my return line into it. No issues here.
    I dont know where that sensor is at but if its oil level I would think its possible you had a drainage problem since its trying to push against fluid?
