    I would not use an aluminumn driveshaft, a steel shaft is much stronger and a driveshaft is not something you want to come apart

    Regardless of the material . You have to see the gauge of the tube it is made of. I bet you are one of the most that had a bad experience with aluminum OEM drive shaft.

    The one that chevrolade have (I have one about the same but mine is longer ) will hold a lot of power. My truck put 850hp + to the wheels.
    I'm no expert in DS by no means. But that's the way it goes with new DS.

    To the op. I'm sure as hell that you gonna keep climbing that power some more. Hopefully later than sooner you'll end up mounting a 4L85E . That transmission has a different length compared to your build 60e.

    If you have a steel OEM DS hold to it for now. Wait for that trans swap and then go for the aluminium DS .

    Just my opinion. Hope you are enjoying your truck a lot.

    What do y'all think the benefit of running and aluminum driveshaft really is?
    Doing the steel driveshaft is just one of those things, do it once and forget about it. No point in worrying about doing something twice. Atleast that's how I would see it

    Why all things that turn and transfer power must be lighter and stronger???

    Yes, lighter, and stronger. I just feel as if the stronger takes more priority in something like a driveshaft.
    But they do have some super cool driveshafts I have seen today at the trade show in Florida, they are carbon fiber main shafts wrapped in an extra layer of carbon fiber. Rated to 1000 hp supposedly. They still use aluminum ends.

    I've been considering an aftermarket DS for some time. Starting this thread was just further reasearch on the matter. I called "driveshaft specialists of texas" and had a pretty detailed conversation with them. As it turns out, my steel 3.5" 2-piece OEM driveshaft is plenty strong - that's what the driveshaft specialist of texas said anyways. I'll admit, I was thinking that because aluminum is light and fairly strong I would kill two birds with one stone - get a driveshaft which is lighter AND only one piece. In the end I discovered that it's just not necessary to buy an aftermarket DS.

    My driveshaft is a 3.5 inch two piece as well. I feel way more confident in it than I did the aluminum one.
