Most people around this website will consider this a typical move by me....

But seriously guy? The smallest caliber I would EVER think of using for a deer is a .223. You run too many risks. Mortally wounding the deer and not finding them, crippling the animal for life, or just causing agonizing pain to an innocent creature. I'm not one of those hippie animal purists by any means, but you are an unethical hunter if you deem a .22 okay for large game. If you've got the stones to go out and kill an animal, I suggest you do it more ethically than your current rate. I've been deer hunting for 15 years and have seen deer run when shot perfectly through the lungs or heart with my .280. Make a bad shot with a .22 on deer in my neck of the woods and they'll laugh and shrug it off.

I was gonna leave it alone. But Justin opened the can. That is completely unethical. Legally I can't use anything smaller than a .243, and honestly I wouldn't consider it if I could. And I'm a DAMN GOOD shot, I just don't trust a tiny little bullet like that to get the job done efficiently. I'm also lazy and hate tracking them through the bush, so I do what I can to drop them on the spot.

You must assume I was reffering to shooting a deer in the body and this is not the case, I use my. 270 for that, I head shoot them with my 22. They drop like a rock every time! Im not shooting long distance either, usually they're close enough you could spit on them. Also there's a few houses around and don't want to take the chance shooting a high powered rifle. If you don't feel comfortable shooting a deer in the head with a 22 rifle at 15 yards I suggest you improve your marksmanship. Competitive shooting, gunsmithing, and hunting have been a big part of my life since I was a child. Just as you are confident with your mechanical skills and know how I am as equally confident every time I pull the trigger and I am very comfortable with killing a deer with a .22. Im not trying to piss you off by posting this, just stating my reasons for using a small caliber rifle for some of my hunting trips.

I'm to the point in my life where I kill a deer for two reasons. One if I the freezer is getting empty, and one if he's a trophy. I cannot justify shooting a deer in the head for either of those two reasons. 99% of deer hunters wouldn't justify shooting a deer in the head anyway. Have you ever cut a deers head open? The brain is about the size of a tennis ball (MAX). You run the risk of shooting it in the jaw and mortally wounding it. I don't care how confident you are. Confidence is a stain you can't wipe off. It's unethical. If you're forced to hunt in residential areas, look for other places to hunt. All it takes is one minor mistake...
