    I did a little test just for giggles, and ran my spectre system on my truck, i got 22.5 mpg going 65 freeway. and than i switched back to my stock one, ran it for about a day and then did the same trip, it was 19.4 MPG, i know the results seem pretty high, but i ran 65 with cruise control and no hard acceleration or braking. just my opinion on the whole CAI thing.

    Yet another DIY option.

    Cut a hole in the bottom of the stock box and run tubing from box to bumper. The example I know of used a rubber intake piece from a junkyard car. The tubing bends and faces forward into the incoming air at the bottom of the bumper.

    After my exhaust instal, I installed my K&N CAI and it was a night and day difference. Then I went back to my stock box, tubing and paper filter and it was sluggish like an old dog. Then I dropped in a K&N filter... better. Then I changed the stock ducting to a straight tube... still better. And now I got my buddy's lower stock box with a door knob drill bit hole in the front side of it, K&N drop in filter and the straight tube... even better now and a noticeable change in sound/ performance. So now I need to get my CAI back from my buddy and reinstal it on my truck... if I can catch him and pry it off his truck and out of his hands. He said his next purchase is a CAI. Can anything more be said to prove the difference aftermarket CAI vs stock airbox?

    Nice! I'm about to put e-fans on mine so I'll have more room up there to mod things. While it's apart I'll check out the stock setup a little closer.

    I'm mostly looking for free horsepower mods that will make the truck quicker and also help the gas mileage.

    I'd still like to see some dyno results if anyone has ever done a comparison.

    A couple guys from another forum did a test of some different CAI's. I was there getting the truck tuned and realized I had been running without an air filter since the engine swap, lol. The stock air box with drop in filter did surprisingly well. Below are the results.

    Excellent! Thanks for posting that.

    Looks like a modded factory air box with a K&N filter might be the way to go.
