my buddy has a stock 6.0 and runs 234/236 .598/.598 and it screams!

lets back up a bit, what headers you running? whats after the heads ie: pipe size?
deffinately need a cam, but lets look at the overall setup not just bits and pieces!!
i know you got ported and polished 317's headers ( which ones )
what else is bolted to the motor?

First of all if the tuner said he could get 10hp... GET IT! May find more. Next, bigger cam as guys said above. And the other mods you have done to the truck make a difference too.
