I have other stuff that is performance oriented so I'd like to keep performance mods to a minimum on this truck. It will be a daily driver to get to work and back. I'd like it to have a little pep when needed, but it wouldn't be that important. I wouldn't really want to give up any gas mileage for extra performance. A 4.8 would probably be faster than the Ford truck I was driving. And the Ford was doing a great job getting me to work and back (until the motor locked up).

I haven't looked at the Ford to see what happened, but it was obviously a major failure. If I had to guess I'd say it may have dropped a valve.

I agree. The LS motors perform really well and still get good gas mileage. That's why I want to switch to one for my daily driver.

I'm not having much luck finding a 5.3 in a regular cab short bed truck. I wonder if the trailer towing package would be one of the things that caused a truck to have the 5.3? Did they offer the trailer towing package in a regular cab short bed truck?

Towing package usually means 3.73s and a hitch.... USUALLY.

But yes, it was offered. Mine has it.

Do most of these trucks have an open rear end? What causes one to have a posi/limited slip (or whatever they call it these days) type differential?

Normally, if they have a towing package, they have a G80 limited slip. USUALLY. You will find the ones here and there that don't.

Trailer towing preparation includes tow hook; 7-wire harness; Z85 Trailering Special Equipment; Includes: [K47] Air Cleaner: High Capacity And [KNP] HD External Transmission Cooler And [G80] Locking Differential And [Z82] Trailering Special Equipment: H.D.

Rarely have I seen one without 3.73 gears, but it happens.

Sounds like youd be happy with a 4.8 with a tune. There is one for sale on here. It has more than a tune but the price is right. Its an 06 I believe. DominosCowboy has it for sale.
