this engine just feels like it woul dbe more at home in something like say... a go-cart.

I can't find underdrives for an '05 or later besides SLP. I'd like to overdrive the alt. Any suggestions?

    cheap ceramic coated crap?

I don't think I can squeeze the cash for the Dynatech or SW, although I would like to keep Cats to be somewhat environmentally responsible, to offset my 454 S-10 blazer and 383 Pontiac

my '90 has a MG5 tranny and a tbi 350. I don't think it ever got 14mpg. It has 3.42 gears and 28" tall tires though.

I'll try revving the piss out of the engine on this next tank and maybe even run in 4th on the highway to see what happens to the mileage.

well I just dropped $1958 on a Extang tonneau, Banks exhaust, Eclipse cd player, install kit/harness, RCA cables, Image Dynamics door speakers, and Vararam CAI.

Just need to get headers and underdrive pulleys yet before Christmas, and pay my buddy $100 for more credits on his HP tuner.
Are there any smog compliant long tubes out there?

I don't think I can do the wheels, tires, gears, and drop right now. Unless I can find someone to buy the 265/70R17's on there now, and just do like a 255/60 for winter.

At least I can use everything I've bought with a 6.0L variant later on.

Actually you can do a ton to the 4.8 and swap it over to a 6.0 later. All bolt ons will swap. If you go large enuf cam in the 4.8 it can go into a 6.0 and see nice gains... Either way get gears in it before you say you hate it. You can pick up a good set for less than 200 usually

I was trying to drive in 1 gear less than I usually do today when I went to work. It turns 2200 in 4th at 60 according to the speedo. They did not recalibrate the speedo for the monster truck tires on there. I could have been pulled over a whole lot since I got this thing.

I'd agree with everyone's suggestions about the gears and tune for sure. My pretty much stock 5.3 ECSB Z71 with 4.88's and 37's gets a touch better gas mileage than your getting.

My truck did what your truck has done when it came to the gas mileage. It was decent at first, then it dropped off, then it came back up. Give it time to break in. Then mod it.
