I'm all for the allison tranny swap, but I personally hate diesels.
I can't stand the sound of them, or the excess exhaust they put out.
Those things pratically run off of liquid sludge. However, my dad has a 2004 Chevy 3500 with D-max/Allison combo and it hauls like hell. I've been trying to get him to purchase a switchable tune, but he thinks it will over-work the engine. I heard of people getting 150 hp Extreme Bully Dog tunes, but they said you cant leave it on very long or it will blow.

Hi guys.
I swapped in the 80E in my 2000 silvo 5.3 and LOVE IT. It shifts much better than the 60 did and the truck even accelerates better despite the higher first gear ratio. It took quite a few parts, time, and hassle, but it was worth every penny. I will not hesitate to use another 80E in my '66 nova when the time comes. The 60e that i had in my truck lost both front and rear planets (once each at different times) and i was not about to go through the hassle of rebuilding that pile of a 4L60E again. Allen (farmtruc) was great in getting the pcm programming to work and I would recommend him to anyone.

tight lipped. im not. i will have about 3500.00 rapped up in mine for the tranny.

total bill for all the mods i have been doing lately with the truck is going to tap the 4000 range. and i did not get a blower with that bill either. but i believe that it will last this time.
